The Management Fundamentals in Healthcare Organizations Certificate program includes the core courses of the Executive Master’s in Healthcare Administration, but is for individuals who do not desire a full MHA. This program may be a good fit for many students, including individuals working in healthcare organizations who are interested in developing a better understanding of management. The certificate includes coursework in the design of healthcare delivery systems, health economics, cost accounting in healthcare, introduction to healthcare finance, teamwork in healthcare, and an introduction to management principles in health care.
Students in the certificate are expected to master basic skills in management, teamwork, accounting and financial analysis in healthcare organizations. For clinical professionals and others working in the healthcare industry, these skills are critical to the development of their careers and to their mobility within the organization and the field. Specific outcomes expected to accrue to those who complete the certificate include the following:
The University of Minnesota developed the first distance education program in healthcare administration more than 40 years ago. Carrying that tradition forward, the Management Fundamentals Certificate combines online, experiential and on-campus learning opportunities. Most of the coursework for the Certificate is offered online, and students can complete the program in 9 months. Face-to-face classroom time is limited to seven days in August and four days in May.
